Captain Douglas Webster (USCG Certified) has been escorting people to meet the dolphins and whales in the waters off the Kona coast since 1997. He was a master swimmer (former national AAU champion) and has been in or around the water all of his life. He grew up on the Gulf coast of Florida and learned to swim literally before he could walk. His first encounter with free-swimming ocean dolphins happened when he was only eight years old and left an indelible mark.
Since moving here in 1997, Douglas has been communing with cetaceans, both dolphins and whales, in coastal Hawaiian waters on a regular basis. As an ocean facilitator for international groups he has introduced this amazing experience to thousands of people in a reverent and respectable manner that is safe for both humans and dolphins.
He has often been seen floating in proximity of dolphins as they've come to trust him and make their presence known to him on a regular basis.
Douglas encourages courtesy and humility while allowing any dolphin to approach. He believes that much like we would speak to a child, we must show no aggression, as it will be picked-up immediately by these hypersensitive creatures.
The dolphins have something to show humans that goes beyond what our logical minds can comprehend. They demonstrate a level of awareness of the world that reveals a new way of thinking and being that humans can also access if we would choose to do so.
Over the years, Douglas has learned the subtle art of communicating with the dolphins and shares their profound insights with interested people who come from all over the world to experience this unique phenomenon. During his time here he has been a regular facilitator for Joan Ocean's Dolphin Connection seminars as well as many other international groups. He has also hosted the internet radio programs: Dolphinville Dialogues, that features interviews with various international teachers and experiencers here in Hawaii who speak of their interaction with the dolphin and whale pods. He has also created websites expressing his own experiences and opinions: Dolphinville.com; IamDolphinus.com; Cetacean-Nation.com and DolphinMatrix.com.
